Sylvia (Kowalczyk) Boynton, 100 and 339 days, passed away on Jan. 30, 2020 in Palmer, MA. She was born and raised in Wilbraham by her parents Stanislaw and Mary (Skorupski) Kowalczyk. She attended Wilbraham Schools and moved to Boston in 1937, where she worked as a waitress. Her son, Richard, was born in 1942. After her husband Herbert’s death, she moved to Palmer, MA and eventually returned to Wilbraham. Throughout her life she held many jobs including a waitress, welder and nurses’ aid at Monson State Hospital where she worked for 33 years.
In 1981, Sylvia married Edward Kowal and moved to Deltona, Florida where she stayed until 2007 when she moved back to Wilbraham. Sylvia was predeceased by her sister, Nellie Zajac, and brother, Bronislaw Kowalczyk; her first husband Herbert Boynton and her husband Edward Kowal; grandson, Richard Boynton II; nieces Carol Maslon and Mary Jane Pifer; and her daughter-in-law Marlene Boynton. She is survived by her son Richard Boynton I, grandchildren: Daniel Boynton, and his wife Deanna; Deanne Sidur, and her husband Todd; and Natasha Boynton and her fiancé Daniel McCall; her great-grandchildren: Anne-Marie Teixeira, and her husband Michael; Kayla Forte, and her husband Joseph, Lauren Sidur, Abigayle Sidur, Megan Sidur, Melina Bourdeau, Majel Bourdeau, Seth Bourdeau and Richard Boynton; and great-great grandchildren Mason Teixeira and Brody Forte; and nephews Robert Zajac; Chester Zajac and his wife Barbara; Stanley Zajac and his wife Mary Ellen. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9-10 AM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd. Sylvia’s Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM at St. Cecilia Church, 42 Main Street, Wilbraham followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Ave, Indian Orchard.
