We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Wilbraham Funeral Home
Richard Clark Merwin, longtime resident of Wilbraham, passed away Friday September 2, 2022. He was born on May 10, 1931 in Springfield, MA to Carol (Poland) and Henry Merwin. Dick was very proud of his days in the Air Force and enjoyed sharing stories about his time there. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed history and non-fiction. Dick was an enthusiastic New England sports fan, following the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins. He and his wife Helen attended many Springfield Indians and Kings games. They enjoyed and appreciated nature, whether it was in their backyard or taking their children for hikes all over New England. Dick was an excellent swimmer and his girls remember him on vacations, swimming underwater and scaring them when he stayed down for so long. He was a kind father and showed so much affection to his girls. Despite working long hours each week he always managed to let them know how much they were loved. He enjoyed growing his vegetable garden and working in his yard.
Dick leaves his wife of 64 years, Helen (Moroz), his daughters Donna Merwin and her husband Bill Van Fleet and Joan Rheault and her husband Marty all of Wilbraham, along with his four grandchildren that he treasured: Stephanie, Brandon, Samantha and Kristin. He also leaves his dear brother Robert Merwin, along with several nieces and nephews. His warmth and quiet sense of humor will be missed greatly. Funeral Services and Burial at Dick’s request will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Dick’s name to the Dakine Human Society (dakinhumane.org). The Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
