Mark J. Canegallo, 69, passed away Wednesday September 9th peacefully at home with his fiancé Jennifer Flynn by his side. Born and raised in Springfield, he was the son of the late James and Stella Canegallo. Mark retired in 2008 from the City of Springfield where he worked as an electrician. He loved sports, but lived for softball. Mark “Boo” (short for Buddha) started his softball career in Springfield in the 1970’s as a member of the Walls Sports team. This group of friends traveled around local states. In the late 1980’s he joined the Nassif Sports team from Manchester, CT where he was selected to the New England USSSA Hall of Fame in 1993. Later playing for Pierce Construction his team won his first National Tournament in the late 1990’s. Mark’s illustrious senior softball career began when he joined Thermco of Hyannis Massachusetts winning numerous National titles. Boo was a major contributor in this success. He was named to many all world and all tournament teams while playing for the Connecticut Sportsplex. He was inducted into the Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2009. Mark was one of softball’s most prolific home run hitters and hit some of the longest home runs in softball. Mark also took pride in being a mentor, not only to local players, but players young and old all along the east coast. He loved the many friends he made along the way and thought of them as his family. He was a member of the Dante Club and a competitive racquetball player. Mark leaves his soulmate and beloved fiancé, Jennifer Flynn, his stepchildren Kevo and Jessica Flynn and her fiancé Neil Mims and his granddaughters Maeven and Nylah Mims, whom he adored. He also leaves his daughter and son. Boo will be forever missed by all his family and friends as well as the softball community. All services will be private due to covid.
