Leo Darsigny, 92, of East Longmeadow, beloved husband of Elizabeth Rossi Darsigny, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 7th, after a short illness. Leo was born on January 27,1929 in Indian Orchard, MA, the son of McLea and Felicite (Laflamme) Darsigny. He is survived by his wife beloved Betty and three daughters, Susan Pompi, Linda (Alan Woolf), and Christine Darsigny, as well as his son James (Patti), and son-in-law Daniel MacMullan, as well as 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his daughter Marylouise MacMullan, son-in-law Carmen Pompi, and three sisters Rhea (Charles Brodowski), Anna (Homer LaCoste), and Theresa (Raymond Dionne).
Graduating from Assumption Prep School in 1947, and Assumption College in 1951, to obtain a Master's Degree in Languages from Harvard College in 1952. After marrying the lovely Betty in July 1952, Leo served in the US Army in France 1952-1954. He was Head of the Language department at East Longmeadow High before leaving to found Acrebrook Academy in Springfield, and then served as Director of Admissions at CPI in Bridgeport, CT. He finished his teaching career at Springfield Central HS where he also coached the women's tennis team.
Leo was an accomplished golfer, playing well into his 80s with his many close golfing buddies. He was an avid sports fan with a love for Boston sports but a special place in his heart for the NY Yankees. Leo was happiest when spending time with his wonderful wife Betty and his loving family, often enlisting the aid of his kids and grand-kids in solving his daily crossword puzzles. He was a devout communicant and an extraordinary minister at St. Michael's Church, E.L. Leo's deep spirituality and faith sustained him throughout his life.
Leo’s Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 14th at St. Michael's Parish, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. Burial with military honors will follow at 2:00 PM at the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St, Agawam. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 13th from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Road, Wilbraham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Rachel's Table via rachelstablespringfield.org or to St. Michael's Church, 128 Maple St, East Longmeadow, MA 01028. In light of the current situation with Covid, masks will be provided. Please wear one when attending the services.
