Joseph A. DeCarlo, 95, died on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at home. He was born in Springfield and lived there until 1967 and lived the remainder of his life in East Longmeadow. He was a graduate of Technical High School and received a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Massachusetts where he graduated Cum Laude in 1949. He worked for 37 years as a jet engine performance analyst in the Engineering Department at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT. He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the US and the Philippines as a staff Sergeant. He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow where he was a Eucharistic Minister for 29 years and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for 30 years. He was active in sports in his pre-teen and teen years. He enjoyed pop and classical music, sports, history and was a member of the Springfield Photographic Society in his middle years. Joe and his family enjoyed the many summer vacations on Cape Cod, and many Elder hostel trips from coast to coast. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary in November 2015 and by his son Christopher in November 2010. He leaves his step-son Thomas J. Stewart and his wife Gerry of Springfield, his sisters in law, Helen Garrow and her husband David of Ludlow, Joanne Mason and her husband Larry of North Carolina and Lena DeCarlo of Longmeadow and his brother in law Louis Marsella and his wife Alicia of Nevada and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5–7PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends may meet for Joe’s Liturgy of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11AM at St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield. Memorial contributions in Joe’s name may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow, MA 01028.
