Herbert Longworth Vieira, 90, of 18 Pomeroy St., died on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at home. Born in Taunton, MA; he lived in Taunton and Reading, MA, before moving here with his family in 1966. He was educated in Taunton public schools and was a 1953 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Chemical Engineering. He received a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering Practice from MIT in 1954 and a BME Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Western New England College in 1977.
He was a long-time member of Wilbraham United Church, serving in various capacities, of the American Guild of Organists, serving as a substitute organist in a number of area churches. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, and Sigma Xi, and was a Registered Professional Engineer. He was retired from the former Monsanto Chemical Company in Springfield, MA, and served over thirty years as Adjunct Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at Western New England University. He was a long-time member of the Taunton River Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadrons, holding a full Certificate.
His dear wife of 38 years, Josephine (Gilson) Vieira, died in December, 1999. He leaves a beloved son, William Antone, also of Wilbraham, and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 11:00 AM in Wilbraham United Church, with burial with his dear wife in Woodland Dell Cemetery, Wilbraham, at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours. Wilbraham Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the music program of Wilbraham United Church, 500 Main St., Wilbraham, MA 01095, or to any favored charity.
