Frances K. “Fran” Mell, of Wilbraham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. She was born in Thompsonville, CT and was the last surviving child of Walter and Katherine (Kiszka) Kukulka. She joins them and her husband, Joseph (2010), who passed soon after they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Frances was an honor student at Enfield High School and worked at Pratt & Whitney before they relocated to Wilbraham in 1956. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Cecilia Parish, and served as President of the Women’s Club, an incorporator of the Women’s Bowling league, and Chairman of many successful Christmas bazaars. In 2002, Fran received the Our Lady of Good Counsel Award from the Diocese of Springfield. She also served as an usher at Masses and continued to volunteer for the club activities until her illness. Fran was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Country Club of Wilbraham, always enjoying a win. She was a 4-H leader, teaching local girls to knit, and an accomplished rug braider. She was recruited as a real estate broker by S. William Whyte in 1968 and was active in real estate, continuing with the company through many mergers, completing her career with Real Living. She remained active in sales until well into her 80’s. As owners of Weidner Travel, she and Joe traveled the world. She enjoyed family vacations at the lake and Cape Cod. The world has lost a true force of nature. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, her siblings, Joseph, Edmund, Mary, Josephine, Stella, Theodore and Raymond. She leaves to her memory her three children, daughter Judith Falzone and her husband Joseph, son James, with whom she lived, son Joseph and his wife Lori. She leaves her beloved grandchildren of whom she was so proud, Kristen Harvey and her husband Scott, Richard Falzone and his wife Kristi, William Falzone and his wife Stefanie, and David and Emily Mell. She leaves her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Brianna, Grace, Caroline, Tyler and Elise. The family is grateful to the staff of Vero Rehab of Hampden, Coral, Debbie, Maryanne, Rema, Rose, and all the others who took such wonderful care of our mother. Also, thank you to Baystate Hospice for their great care. All services will be held privately for the family due to the Corona Virus. Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
