Ellen F. (Sharpe) Binney, 89, died peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2022 at home. Born in Pittsfield to the late Albert and Anna (Creamer) Sharpe, she was raised in Boston and settled here in 1965. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Bridgewater Teachers College and achieved her Master’s Degree in Education from SUNY at Cortland. She taught Elementary School in NY and later for 38 years in the Longmeadow School system. Formerly a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield, she was a member of the St. Thomas Women’s Club, Longmeadow Teacher’s Assn, MA Teacher’s Assn. and National Teacher’s Assn. In recent years she attended St. Cecilia’s Church in Wilbraham.
Ellen was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard Binney in 2021 and her brother in law William Binney. She is survived by her children; Annie Hammatt and her husband Mervyn of Bremen, ME, Kathleen Borgatti of Springfield, and Michael Binney and his wife Shari of NC, and six grandchildren; Jason, Justin and Jeremy Borgatti and Steven, Joshua and Timothy Binney and nine great grandchildren; Katie, Tyler, Nathaniel, Melanie, Mia, JJ, Skylar, Hanna and Rylee. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Ellen’s Funeral will be Friday at 9am at Wilbraham Funeral Home to her Funeral Mass at 10am at St. Cecilia’s Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, 577 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
