Earle A. Hanks, 71, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Springfield on June 25, 1949 to the late Erwin and Ruth (Dorsett) Hanks. He grew up in East Longmeadow and attended East Longmeadow High School. He settled in Wilbraham in 1976. Earle was self-employed in the car business for his entire adult life, worked very hard and took pride in his work. Along with his wife Lynn, Earle fostered 56 children over the years. He loved camping, fishing, weekly card games with his close buddies as well as vacationing in Maine and New Hampshire. A devoted hockey dad, Earle enjoyed any kind of car racing, and was an avid fan of the Red Sox and the N.E. Patriots. He was well known for his Sunday drives to nowhere with his family, often involving the Mohawk Trail. He loved trains and places like the Hoosac Tunnel. One of his greatest joys in life was camping with his sons. He was the beloved husband of 47 years to Lynn D. (Yarnell) Hanks, beloved father of David (Jessica) Hanks of East Granby, CT, Todd Hanks of Springfield, Jeff Hanks of East Longmeadow, Jennifer Hanks of Springfield, Kevin (Elizabeth) Hanks of Wilbraham, Charles Hanks of Dennis, Cameron Hanks of Wilbraham, Darryl Fredette of Wilbraham, and the late Michael Aronson who passed away in 2009. He was the brother of the late Eugene Hanks and Nancy Traver, loving grandfather of Evan and Caleb Hanks, Carly Nieves, Carter, Ruby and Sawyer Hanks, and the late Cayden Stambovsky who passed away in 2019; he also leaves several nieces and nephews. The calling hours (Earle’s wishes were that his life would be celebrated in comfortable clothes; casual preferred) will be Tuesday from 4-6 at the WILBRAHAM FUNERAL HOME, 2551 Boston Road, Wilbraham. We ask that those attending the wake wear masks and practice social distancing. After your brief visit with the family please exit the funeral home because of covid concerns. The Committal Service on Wednesday will be private; Earle's final resting place will be Quabbin Park Cemetery in Ware, MA.
