Bruce H. Corey, 87, passed away on Sun Feb. 9, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 30, 1932 to the late Donald and Gladys (Wyman) Corey. Bruce grew up in Springfield, near Forest Park. When he was young, he was a member of the Boy Scouts, delivered newspapers and spent many hours playing baseball at the Park with his friends. He graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1950 and proudly served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He then went on to receive his MBA from W.N.E.C. by attending college three nights a week for eight years while working full-time. In 1956, he started working for Johnson Acoustics in West Springfield and eventually purchased the business. His son, Paul, later joined him and continued to run the business after Bruce retired. He was a wonderful family man who built the family home in Wilbraham, adding on to it after each child was born. Bruce also enjoyed working at his home on Cape Cod being out in the yard, pruning trees and improving the appearance of the home. An avid stamp collector with a great sense of humor, he played hockey until he was 74, loved to float around in his pool and spend time with his cat, Mr. Minkey. On his 80th birthday, he and two of his grandchildren went skydiving, inspired by President Bush. Bruce sent the President a note and received a letter congratulating him in return. He and his son also had the privilege of flying in a B24 Bomber, the same type of plane his brother Norman piloted in WW II. Since his brother’s plane crashed in Italy, it was an honor to take this flight. Bruce was a member of Foster Memorial Church, served on many boards and was a member of the choir and bell choir. Bruce leaves his loving wife of 62 years, Pamela (Kinney) Corey, his children; Deborah Tremblay and her husband Ronald of Enfield, CT, Paul Corey and his wife Cynthia of Springfield, Sharon Normandeau and her husband Michael of Hampden and Holly Normoyle and her husband Thomas also of Hampden. He leaves seven grandchildren; Megan, Sean, Samantha, Alissa, Adam, Sarah and Emma. He was predeceased by his brothers Donald and Norman Corey and his granddaughters Shannon and Samantha Normoyle. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 15 at 11 am at Foster Memorial Church, 1791 Wilbraham Rd., Spfld, MA 01119.
