Longtime East Longmeadow resident, Arthur J. Viens, 92, died peacefully on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Springfield, to the late Adelard and Louise (Bonneau) Vient, he was a proud World War II era Army Veteran who served in South Korea. Art was a dedicated Police Officer for the City of Springfield for 34 years until his retirement. A faithful communicant of St. Michael’s Church, he was a member of the East Longmeadow American Legion and Life Member of the Springfield Lodge of Elks #61. Art is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Virginia A. (Connelly) Viens, their four children; Julia Foley and her husband Kenneth of Foxboro, Virginia L. Viens of East Longmeadow, Joseph Viens of East Longmeadow and Amy Hutchinson and her husband John of Waltham, six cherished grandchildren; Erin, Meghan, Brendan, Owen, James and Kaliana and many nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his brothers; Paul, Eugene and Roland and his sisters; Annette, Phyllis, Claire and Theresa. Art was a kind, soft-spoken and devoted family man. He loved spending time with family and friends especially on holidays and special gatherings. Art enjoyed travel and vacations, sports, the morning paper and coffee, and a good chat with friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 26 from 3-6 PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends may meet for Art’s Funeral Mass on Monday, December 27 at 11:30 AM at St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at 1:00 PM at MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam.
