Arthur Francis DuBois, 89, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021 at home in the loving arms of his wife. Art amazed his family and caregivers as he fought back over and over again when others had counted him out. We joked and said he was like a cat with nine lives.
He was the son of the late Irene (Griffin) and George DuBois. Arthur (Sonny) was born and raised in the Merrick section of West Springfield. Upon graduation he served in the US Army during the Korean War as a paratrooper with the 77th Special Forces.
He was the president and owner of E.R. Lavigne Insurance for over 40 years and retired from Lebel, Lavigne, Deady Insurance. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2212. He served as a Chairman and Commissioner of the Chicopee Country Club. He was the longest sitting member as a Corporator, Trustee, and on the Investment Board at Chicopee Savings Bank. He was an avid and a long-time member of the Ludlow Country Club. "Artie" was known for his style and being a gentlemen golfer, of which others aspired to be when they "grow up". Arthur was married to his best friend and devoted wife, Marie (Desmarais) for 27 years. Together they loved to travel, golf, and spend time with their family and especially their cherished grandchildren. He leaves his loving daughters, Joelle Michigan (Marty), Amy Zwaan (Johan) and Ann Tabb and stepsons James Lisowski (Linda), Duane Lisowski (William Libit), Todd Lisowski (Renee). His much loved grandchildren, Kate DuBois, Nicholas and Hannah Zwaan, Michael, Jack, Kelly and Lilly Tabb, Samantha and Cameron Lisowski, Aelan and Sawyer Lisowski. His sisters Irene DellaGuistina and Betty DuBois. Brothers-in-law Norman Desmarais and Rene Desmarais, his sisters-in-law Yvette Campbell, Donna Desmarais, Elaine Moody, Jane Desmarais and Virginia DuBois as well as many nephews, nieces and friends.
He was predeceased by his two brothers George and Richard DuBois, brothers-in-law Charles DellaGuistina, Jerry Campbell and John Desmarais and sisters-in-law Marguerite DuBois and Beverly Desmarais. Family and friends may meet for Art’s Funeral Mass on Thursday, March 4th at 11:00 AM at St. Cecilia Church, Wilbraham.
