Obituary
Zigmond F. Pabich, 77, passed away Friday April 3, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in New Haven, CT to the late Frank and Stella (Koziatek) Pabich, Zig was raised in Hartford, CT and graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1960. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Trinity College, Hartford, in 1964. After graduation he worked for Friendly Ice Cream Corp for 24 years, advancing to Director of Restaurant Operations. In 1987, Zig and his good friend, Dave Truesdale, became co-owners and operators of the Jim Dandy Restaurants and were business partners for 20 years until their retirement in 2007.

Zig was a resident of Wilbraham for 45 years. A longtime communicant of St. Cecilia Church, he was active in the Knights of Columbus and served as a past Grand Knight. In recent years, Zig was involved with the Friends of Wilbraham Seniors, especially in raising awareness of the need for a new senior center.

He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 55 years, Harriet (Stumbers) Pabich; their three daughters, Lisa Damon and her husband Bruce of Nashville, TN, Linda Pabich of Wilbraham, and Diana Jud and her husband Michael of Westwood, MA; two brothers, Edward Pabich and his wife Patricia of W. Simsbury, CT and Dennis Pabich and his wife Sherry of Albuquerque, NM; and five cherished grandchildren: Jordan, Christopher, Sydney, Lindsay and Kevin.

Zig had a big heart, and he would often go out of his way to help others. He was an avid fan of Boston sports teams. He enjoyed and valued his friendships playing tennis and visiting with friends in Wilbraham and on Cape Cod, Florida, and Long Beach Island, NJ.  Beloved by his grandchildren, their proud “Dziadziu” would travel frequently to see their games, concerts, and plays.

Family and friends are invited to attend Zig’s Memorial Mass on Friday, July 24th at 11:00 AM at St. Cecilia Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham (masks are required to be worn in church). A private burial will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield. Arrangements are under the care of Wilbraham Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in Zig’s name may be made to Friends of Wilbraham Seniors Building Fund, PO Box 705, Wilbraham, MA 01095 or St. Cecilia Church Music Fund, 42 Main St., Wilbraham, MA 01095.
