Obituary
Walter George Worthington, 95, passed away on January 14, 2022. Born in Springfield, he was the son of the late Walter R. and Edith L. (Pinder) Worthington. He was a resident of Wilbraham since 1955 and attended First Church of Monson. Walter graduated from Springfield Tech High in 1944 and still met with several of his high school classmates for breakfast. Walter was in the Navy from 1946 – 1948, and was employed at Western Massachusetts Electric Co., (now Eversource) as an electrical designer for 37 years, retiring in 1990. He was an original founding volunteer of the Wilbraham Pheasant Farm (now Fountain Park) for over 20 years and was a volunteer driver for the Wilbraham Senior Center into his early 90’s. Walter was artistic, creative, and talented. He enjoyed carving birds with his friends and helping his children with their house projects. Walter was also a longtime gardener at the Wilbraham Community Garden continuing until the summer before his death. Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Elizabeth (Betty) (Reeder) Worthington. He was also predeceased by his sister Ellen and her husband Richard (Dick) Balch of East Longmeadow. He leaves his daughter, Charlotte A. Worthington of Wilbraham, and two sons, Russell R. (and wife Debra) Worthington of Newburyport, MA, and Paul A. (and wife Lisa A. and granddaughter Elanore) Worthington of Wilbraham. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family in Adams Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Walter’s name to the Sevenar’s Concerts, Inc., 80 East Ave., Apt. 3G, NY, NY, 10028, or the Wilbraham Public Library, 25 Crane Park Dr., Wilbraham, MA 01095.
