Virginia “Ginnie” L. (Mayers) Rickert, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Baystate Medical Center. She was born in Jenkintown, PA to the late John and Irene (Kentopp) Mayers. She attended Worcester Memorial School of Nursing and Anna Maria College, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Nursing. Ginnie began her career as a Registered Nurse at several hospitals including Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Mercy Medical Center, and retiring from Baystate Medical Center. In addition, she taught many nursing students at Baystate School of Nursing and Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee. She was a member of the Grace Union Church in Wilbraham for over 40 years and active in the choir and various committees. In her spare time, Ginnie enjoyed quilting, knitting, traveling, and camping. She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband of 64 years, K. Barry Rickert, her two devoted daughters; Diana G. Jay and her husband, Patrick of Westfield and Tracy L. Sicbaldi of Wilbraham, cherished grandchildren; Kenneth J. Janovsky, Amelia J. (Janovsky) Laprade, and step grandson; Daniel E. Jay, two great grandchildren; Joshua and Alfred all of Westfield and two caring sisters; Joan Mayers and Wendy Haag and her husband, Lee, her sister-in-law Joyce Bingham, 2 nephews, 2 nieces and a host of family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth Mayers, step granddaughter Tanya L. Janovsky, sister-in-law Beverly Trauger, brothers-in-law Paul Bingham, and Donald Trauger, and four nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Baystate Health and Heritage Hall for their care of Ginnie during her final days. Family and friends may gather for Ginnie’s Memorial Service on Sunday, September 24th at 1:00 PM at Grace Union Church, with the Rev. Dorothy Borden presiding. Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ginnie’s name to Grace Union Church, 10 Chapel St., Wilbraham, MA 01095 or to the charity of one’s choice.
