Verna (Green) Caney, 84, died peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2023. Born in Springfield to the late William Vernon Green and Mae Harpin, she was raised in the Springfield area, spent time in Northern California, and moved back to the Springfield area later in life.
She is survived by her son Ronald Parsons II and her grandson Ronald Parsons III of CA, sister Carolyn Whipple of Hampden, and stepchildren Renee Caney Jones and Ken Caney of CA. She was a loving step Grandmother to Danielle, Tracy, Tonya, Shelley, Stephanie, and Nick. She also leaves nine step-great grandchildren and two step-great-great grandchildren.
Verna worked as an office administrator in the LA area, and later as a police dispatcher for the Town of Hampden, MA. Verna enjoyed baking, cooking (her chili was known to be legendary), sitting down with a good book, and occasionally was known to frequent some of her favorite casinos.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday, April 21st at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St., Springfield. Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family extends special thanks to the caring nurses and staff at JGS Lifecare of Longmeadow, MA. Memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, or to one’s favorite charity.
