Ursula "Wendy"
Whyte Gibb
June 19, 1939 – April 13, 2026
Wilbraham Country Club
1:30 - 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
Longtime Wilbraham resident Ursula “Wendy” Whyte Gibb, 86, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, April 13, 2026. Wendy was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, to the late Ursula (Coues) and Andrews Clark. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, S. William Whyte; her second husband, David Gibb; and her brother, David Clark.
Wendy was a natural caretaker. In her early years, she babysat her brothers, David and Peter, while her parents were at work. She enjoyed caring for neighborhood children and spent two summers as a nanny on Groton Long Point. After graduating from Classical High School, Wendy attended LaSalle Junior College in Auburndale. Post college graduation, she followed her adventurous spirit and spent two winters as a ski attendant at Vermont’s prominent mountain resorts.
Professionally, she worked as a medical assistant in local physicians’ offices, managed the Crane Park shopping center, and was quietly dedicated to the betterment of Wilbraham. Wendy was a member of the Springfield Junior League and served as a trustee of the former Wing Memorial Hospital.
Wendy was known as a tireless friend, the best Gramme, and a generous supporter of people and charitable organizations. She was an avid sports fan—especially of the Boston Red Sox—loved spending time on the Cape, and was always ready to dine out with friends and family. Wendy had a warm heart and was especially fond of children, dogs, flowers (especially hydrangeas), jewelry, and butterflies. She enjoyed playing in various bridge groups, as well as card games, crossword puzzles, reading, music, tennis, walking, bike riding, and frequent stops at Dunkin Donuts or a good ice cream shop.
She will be dearly missed by her brother, Peter Clark (Laurie); her three children, Jill Gookin (Cliff) of Lexington, KY, Jennifer McLoughlin (Kevin) of East Longmeadow, MA, and Jeffrey Whyte (Jennifer Mallalieu) of Hampden, MA; her four cherished grandchildren, Mari McLoughlin, Presley Gookin, Clark Gookin, and Brennan McLoughlin; her stepchildren, Elizabeth Ketzler, Jennifer Silva, Kathryn Gibb, David Gibb, and Rebecca Gibb; and many additional beloved family members and friends.
Per Wendy’s wishes, a small private burial was held at Woodland Dell Cemetery shortly after her passing. Wilbraham Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Wilbraham Country Club on May 9th from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. The family welcomes all who knew Wendy to join them and share their stories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 320 Nevada St., Suite 201, Newton, MA 02460, or to New England Hospice, 190 Old Derby St., Suite 304, Hingham, MA 02043.
