Timothy John Murphy, 75, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026 at home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous ten-year battle with Ewing Sarcoma. Born in Ludlow, Massachusetts, Tim was the youngest of three sons born to the late Philip E. and Helen (Palin) Murphy. He grew up in Wilbraham, graduated from Minnechaug Regional High School (1968), and earned his BA degree from Framingham State College (1972). It was there, at age eighteen, that he met the love of his life, Suzanne Ouimette. They married and shared 54 wonderful years together.

Tim was a well-known and respected optician in the community. He founded The Spectacle Shoppe, with locations in Springfield, Holyoke, and Wilbraham, and operated The Optical Shop in Palmer and Ludlow alongside Dr. Peter Kelly. For many years, he traveled annually to Haiti with Dr. Kelly, Dr. Dennis Dorans and other eye care professionals, providing free medical eye care services and eyeglasses for the poor. He took great pride in his work and was beloved by countless patients and colleagues, and many became his lifelong friends.

A devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Tim cherished time with his family. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and Irish dancing performances, working in his yard, playing golf, and going out to dinner with Suzanne on Saturday nights. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying the works of Tom Clancy and James Clavell. Known for his quick wit, sarcasm, and the ability to make anyone laugh and smile, Tim had a gift for brightening every room he entered.

He was predeceased by his parents and his oldest brother, Dennis. He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne; his devoted sons, Michael and his husband David of Silver Spring, MD, and Bryan and his wife Heather of Wilbraham; his brother Barry and his wife Cindy of Bluffton, SC; two cherished grandchildren, Liam and Kaedence Murphy of Wilbraham; his cousin Francis Buckley and his wife Debbie of Blanchard, ID; and his special friends, Rick Shults and Scott Taft.
