Longtime Wilbraham resident Thomas Joseph Doyle 85 passed away Tuesday. He was born in Springfield on July 27, 1938 to the late Kathryn (Leary) and John Doyle. Tom graduated from Springfield Technical High School and obtained an Associate’s Degree in business from American International College. He served 6 years in the Massachusetts National Guard where he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He worked as a supervisor for the Coca-Cola Company for over 26 years in both Springfield and Hartford. He was a faithful communicant of St. Cecilia Church. Tom was a very active volunteer for many years with the American Red Cross, the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and served on the MAB Advisory Board. He was on the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team and helped with Emergency Communications which assisted the Red Cross in both Hampden and Hampshire counties. He assisted with communications during the Boston Marathon as well. He was an amateur radio operator and a member of MTARA ( Mt. Tom Amateur Radio Assoc.) and HCRA ( Hampden County Radio Assoc.).
Tom was an incredible man who overcame many obstacles in his life through his courage and faith. He had an unbelievable joy for life, always displayed a positive and humorous attitude and extended kindness to everyone he met. He loved music and was often singing or humming a tune. He was an avid runner, Red Sox fan and loved spending time with family and friends. Tom’s true love was his wife of 54 years, Mary, whom he adored. They enjoyed boating, travel, and many trips to Cape Cod with their family. Irish history and culture were also a part of their lives.
Tom was the beloved husband of the late Mary (O’Neill) Doyle who passed in 2022. Loving father to Catherine St. Laurent and her husband Mark of Feeding Hills, Christopher Doyle and his wife Kathleen of Wilbraham, and the late Thomas J. Doyle Jr., caring brother of Robert Doyle and his wife Ellen of Florida, devoted grandfather (Papa) of Matthew St. Laurent, and Cailyn, Norah, Liam, and Keeley Doyle, he also leaves his step granddaughter, Krystle, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Thomas’ family would like to thank the many caring nurses, aides and staff at Vantage of Hampden and Beacon Hospice who cared for him.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4-6 pm at the WILBRAHAM FUNERAL HOME, 2552 Boston Road, Wilbraham. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10 am at the Wilbraham Funeral Home followed by Funeral Mass at 11 am at St. Cecilia’s Church in Wilbraham. Burial will follow in St Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield. Due to health concerns within the family, it has been requested to PLEASE OMIT ordering any flowers or wearing any perfume or cologne.
