Obituary
Steven Wilcox Hastings of Springfield passed away on April 7, 2020. Born in Springfield, MA, he was the son of Ralph and Lois Hastings. After sometime in the Army, he attended college to become a professional Architect. Steve worked for several major architectural firms in Springfield and Hartford, retiring early to be a faithful caregiver to his mother in her later years. His major hobbies and pastimes were restoring old cars, stamp collecting and enjoying rides in the beautiful countryside. He was also the owner and devoted caretaker of a family homestead in Granby, CT, built in 1787 by his sixth great grandfather, Captain Sadoce Wilcox. Steve was a faithful attender of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield.
He will be missed by many for his friendly smile, helping hand, thoughtful deeds, and giving spirit. His surviving family includes a brother Marcus Wilcox Hastings of Wilmington, NC, a sister Janice Elinor Hastings of Holland, MI, niece Jil Thrash of Crofton, MD, and nephew Eric Hastings of Holly Springs, NC. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Wilcox Hastings of Sault Ste. Marie, MI. He also leaves his cousin, Carol Rice, of Worcester, MA, and friends Joan and Ken Henrikson, of Longmeadow, MA.
Due to the current situation, a private burial service will be held in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a future date and time to be announced. Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham, MA 01095, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 330 Whitney Ave. - Suite 420, Holyoke, MA 01040.
