Former longtime Wilbraham resident, Sophie A. Muszynski, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep July 12th, 2022 in Panama City Beach, FL. Born in Westfield, MA on February 23rd, 1928 to the late Nikodem and Frances Muszynski, she grew up in Chicopee and was the youngest of 4. Sophie was employed by Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Springfield for 41 years in the records department. She received many awards for her dedication and hard work and she was a member of the Mass Mutual Theatrical Club. She purchased a home in Wilbraham in 1962 with her sister Rose, where they lived together near family. Sophie loved bowling, snow skiing, all animals, especially her geese and ducks that would come back every year and peck on her back door. She loved traveling to Europe and taking weekend trips to Hampton Beach, NH with her girlfriends. She started a club with co-workers called the Slush Club. These women had dinners out and sleepovers that span over 50 years. She was an avid Red Sox fan who never missed watching a game. Sophie was a dedicated member of St. Cecilia’s Church in Wilbraham for many years until moving to Florida in 2011, where she lived with her nephew Steven Subjek and wife Patty, who loved her dearly. She was the sweetest soul, always thinking of others before herself and she had a smile that would melt your heart! She is greatly missed!
Sophie was predeceased by her sister Jane Subjek (Edward), sister Rose Muszynski of Wilbraham and her brother Walter Muszynski (Priscilla) of MI. Surviving are her nephews; Steven Subjek (Patty) of FL, Edward Subjek (Tonja) of Germany, Nicholas (Cynthia) of SC, nieces Nancy Nelson (Chris) of FL, Mary Danowitz (James) of MI and many great nieces and nephews and other family and friends. A special thank you to Nancy Isham and others who helped and looked after Sophie until she continued her retirement in FL in 2011.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 19th at 10:00 AM at St. Cecilia’s Church, Wilbraham followed by internment in Our Holy Mother of the Rosary Cemetery in Chicopee.
