Shirley Anne (Coughlin) Rossman, age 89, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at JGS LifeCare in Longmeadow, Massachusetts surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 19, 1936, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Shirley was the dedicated daughter of James and Charlotte Coughlin. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Rossman, Sr., and a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and clubbie. She was predeceased by her brothers, Francis and Donald Coughlin.
Shirley is survived by her six children; Donna Conway, predeceased by her husband Daniel, and their son Paul Jueckstock and his wife Jeannette, Cheryl Quesnel, and her children Jennifer and Jeffrey, Robert Rossman, Jr. and his wife Cheryl, and their daughters Jessica and Alicia and her husband, Erik Armstrong, Michael Rossman, Sr., his former wife Maureen, and their children Ashley, Michael Jr., and Dominic, Joseph Rossman and his wife Mary Jayne, and their children Jordan and Jillian, and Mary Krol and her husband Andrew, and their children Taylor and her husband Karl Gates, Jr., and Matthew and his wife Kimberly.
She was a proud and loving great-grandmother to Paulie, Lena, Hunter, Skylar, Logan, Hazel, Charlotte, and Liam, who brought her great joy in her later years.
Shirley and Bob spent many years on Cape Cod, where she loved being near the ocean, and cherished her later years in Vero Beach, Florida. A proud New Englander through and through, Shirley loved a classic lobster dinner, and her unforgettable lobster Newburg was served every Christmas Eve, becoming a cherished family tradition.
Shirley was an avid seamstress who sewed outfits for her children and made festive Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She taught herself to cook and became known for her warm, comforting meals, always prepared with care. For over 40 years on Thursday night, she met with her friends, known as the Clubbies, never missing a week, for coffee, dessert and friendship.
She entered the work force in her forties as a billing clerk at Mass Mutual, after raising her children, where she made many friends.
Shirley was a devoted wife, faithfully by her husband’s side, especially during his time of illness and was married for over 60 years. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her gentle spirit, and her quiet grace.
Shirley and Bob were present at every grandchild’s sporting event, music performance, dance recital, graduation, pageant, always offering encouragement or a bouquet of flowers. Her legacy of love and support will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 25, from 4:00 to 6:30 PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 26, at 10:00 AM at St. Cecilia Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham, followed by the Rite of Committal and burial at Island Pond Cemetery in Ludlow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to Hospice of Western and Central Massachusetts, 1325 Springfield St., Feeding Hills, MA 01030, who provided supportive and compassionate care to her and her family in her final days.
