Salpie Cavros

April 22, 1932 — October 2, 2023

Salpie (Melikian) Cavros, 91, of Wilbraham, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023
after a long period of declining
health. Salpie was born on
April 22, 1932 in Springfield to
Onnik & Elmas Melikian and
lived her entire life in Indian
Orchard and Wilbraham. She
spoke exclusively Armenian
until she started elementary
school. Salpie was married for
36 years to Charles Cavros
until his death in January
2001. They were married at
St. George Greek Orthodox
Cathedral, where their children
were also baptized, but she
herself remained a lifelong
parishioner of the Armenian
church. Together they had two
daughters, Karen Wadley (Tim)
of Alpharetta, GA and Kristen
Marriott (Brian) of Waltham,
MA. In addition to her
daughters and sons in law, Salpie
leaves four grandchildren:
Alexia, Peter, Joshua & Ethan
who were the lights of her life, as
well as dozens of in-laws, nieces,
and nephews. In addition to
her husband and parents, Salpie
is predeceased by her sister
Shaken and brothers Takvor and
Gorken. When her daughters
started school, she went to
work as a kindergarten aide
in Wilbraham Public Schools,
where she stayed for over 30
years. Hundreds, if not more,
of children learned to share in
Mrs. Cavros’ love of reading
and messy crafts over the years.
It was a pleasure for her to run
into students around town, and
eventually teach the children
of former students. Aside from
her grandchildren, Salpie’s
greatest love was for her parish,
St. Gregory’s Armenian Church
in Indian Orchard. She never
missed a Sunday until her health
prevented it, and served for
many years on the parish council
and as a member of the Ladies’
Guild and Bible study club.
