Sadly missed, well-loved and never to be forgotten, Rosemary passed away after a valiant, year-long battle with stage 4 cancer.
She was a graduate of Barry University (BA) and earned degrees with high honors from American International College (M.Ed and CAGS).
Rosemary was a beloved teacher and a valued professional whose career spanned 45 years in the Springfield public schools. She was a teacher and department chair at John F. Kennedy Junior High School and the High School of Commerce. She was then appointed as Director of Social Studies.
Her accomplishments were many. She served as president of the Springfield Administrators Association, co-chaired Kids Voting, was the public school liaison to the Five Colleges, edited the best-selling American History textbook, was named the Massachusetts Supervisor of the Year in 2006 and served on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement. She also wrote and supervised grants that brought millions of dollars into the school system.
Under the aegis of Harvard University, Rosemary co-chaired a committee to evaluate schools in China, met with their Commissioner of Education and helped to arrange student visitation to Springfield. She also evaluated schools in South Africa and provided them with much-needed textbooks.
Despite her many accomplishments and awards, Rosemary was a humble person. She was best known for her kindness, humor, generosity and intelligence.
She loved to visit her family and friends and often engaged in friendly competitions and lively discussions with them. She also enjoyed the beach, golf, reading and most of all, travel and adventure. She visited all 50 states, Europe, Central America, North America, Africa and Asia.
Rosemary will be greatly missed her beloved partner of 55 years, Christine Czekanski, her sister Katherine Stinson, several nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren and her many friends.
Rosemary was predeceased by her parents; John and Katherine (Day) Kalloch and her beloved siblings; Mary Pernice and James and Henry Kalloch.
Family and friends may meet for Rosemary’s Funeral Mass at 11AM at St. Cecilia Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham.
