Richard D. Moskal (80) passed away Saturday January 7th, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Richard, “Dick”/ “Rich” was born to Bronislaus and Josephine (Kuzdozl) Moskal on November 13th, 1942 in Ludlow, MA. Richard was a 1962 Springfield Trade High School graduate and obtained a diploma in Computer operations from Brandon University, United States Postal Service Executive Leadership diploma from University of Virginia, and Business Administration diploma from California University. Richard spent his entire 34-year career as a dedicated Postal Service employee. Richard’s career was vast and diverse. Over the 34 years, Richard and his family were able to live in many areas of the country. Richard’s Postal Service career began in 1975 at the Springfield Bulk Mail center. In 1981, he was promoted to Manage the National Customer Support Center in Memphis, TN. In 1987, he was promoted to Project Director and moved to Washington, DC. In 1993 he became the Manager of Operations and Programs Support in Bedford, NH. In 2000 he became Team Leader, Business Service Network, in Boston, MA. In 2002, until his retirement in 2009, he was the Operations Integration Specialist for the Northeast Area located in Windsor, CT. Richard’s most significant contribution to the United States Postal Service was his work on the Zip + 4 initiative. He was the leader of a large team where he gave significant direction and management to make this operation come to fruition.
Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years Sheila (Peabody), daughter Tracy Moskal (Albert Dubuque, Jr.) of Ludlow, Mark Moskal (Pam Moskal) of Newbury NH, Trina Moskal of Wells ME, along with his grandchildren Amber (Zac), Zach, Haley, Adam (Becca) and Corinna, greatgrandchildren Hunter, Hayden and Wren and grand puppy Harvey. Richard was predeceased by his parents Bronislaus and Josephine Moskal , his sister Evelyn Storozuk and brother in law Walter Storozuk of Chicopee, brother in law Stephen Peabody of Ludlow and beloved grand puppy Molly.
Aside from time spent with his family or helping anyone who needed a father figure to help them buy or sell a car, he loved his time employed at Mercedes Benz of Springfield as a car runner. The days working there were some of the happiest days in his career. Richard also spent many years employed as a volunteer in multiple positions in the town of Ludlow including, voter registration, finance committee, and was part of the team who facilitated the building of the new Ludlow Senior Center.
Richard’s Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 11:30 AM at St. Cecilia Church. Visitation will precede the Mass from 9-11AM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham.
