Richard A. “Red” Jalbert, 95, beloved husband and father, died peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke. Born and raised in Springfield to the late William and Helen (McKiernan) Jalbert, Red and the love of his life Winifred “Winnie” (LaBelle) moved to Hampden in 1956 where they raised their family. Winnie predeceased Red in 2011. They are together again.
Richard lived his faith as a friend to all and an inspiration to his children. His life was in service to his country, in the US Army, his community, serving in elected offices, and to the St. Mary's parish as a volunteer and Cemetery Commissioner.
Red was also predeceased by his brothers; Wallace and Bernard. He is survived by his seven devoted children; Timothy Jalbert (Sharon Matthews), Linda Jalbert (Kelly Rowell), Thomas Jalbert (Dianne), Michael Jalbert (Alfredo DeGuzman), Patricia Jalbert, Christopher Jalbert (Lisa) and Daniel Jalbert (Suzanne), his cherished grandchildren Andrew, Ryan, Hilary, Emily, Ted, Alex, Colin, Hannah, Nick and Ben as well as 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 8 from 4 – 7 PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends may meet for Richard’s Funeral Mass on Tuesday, January 9 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 27 Somers Rd., Hampden.
