Obituary
Richard John Binney, 88, died peacefully on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at home. Born in Hingham, MA to the late Joseph G. and Doris (Baker) Binney, he served proudly in the US Army. He attended Bridgewater Teachers College and graduated from Western New England University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting. He was an accountant for Agway for 24 years until his retirement in 1983. Formerly a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield, in recent years he attended St. Cecilia’s Church in Wilbraham. He was president of West Springfield Hockey Assn. and held other offices for many years.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Ellen (Sharpe) Binney, their children; Annie Hammatt and her husband Merv of Bremen, ME, Kathleen Borgatti of Springfield, Michael Binney and his wife Shari of NC, six grandchildren; Jason, Justin and Jeremy Borgatti and Steven, Joshua and Timothy Binney and eight great grandchildren; Katie, Tyler, Nathaniel, Melanie, Mia, Skylar, Hanna, Rylee and J. J. Richard was predeceased by his brother William Binney. Richard’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Bluebird Estates and our Angels from Interim Health Care for their endless love, kindness and compassion during this difficult time. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 23rd from 4-7pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Richard’s Funeral will be Tuesday at 9am at Wilbraham Funeral Home to his Funeral Mass at 10am at St. Cecilia’s Church, Wilbraham. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, 577 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or St. Cecilia Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham, MA 01095.
