Philip W. Gorman, Jr.

November 23, 1937 — December 14, 2024

Philip W. Gorman, Jr., 87, of Hampden, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 14, 2024.
Born in Springfield, he was the oldest of nine children of the late Philip W. and Dorothy (Brown) Gorman and served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps. as narrated in the Library of Congress ( https://www.loc.gov/item/afc2001001.77250/ ).
"Phil" holds a bachelor in electrical engineering (BEE) degree from Western New England University (WNEU), where years later he worked as an engineering lab supervisor and database manager and statistician for about 20 years. He was also employed by AT&T for some 30 years, starting as a technician and then promoted into management.
Phil was married to the love of his life, Marion. Together, they were inseparable for more than 60 years. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife as well as their three children: Marilyn Fil and her husband Thomas of Monson, MA; Paul Gorman and his wife Maureen of Longmeadow, MA; and Kevin Gorman and his wife Elizabeth of East Longmeadow, MA; and their cherished granddaughter, Marion Fil.
He also leaves behind his siblings: Joseph Gorman and his wife Jacqueline of East Longmeadow, Dorothy Turgeon and her husband Joseph of Chicopee, William Gorman and his wife Linda of East Longmeadow, Donna Bennett of West Springfield, Richard Gorman and his wife Sharon of Ft. Myers, FL, and Thomas Gorman and his wife Margaret of Carolina Shores, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother James Gorman and sister Beverly Gorman.
Phil had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and was often seen carrying a portable amateur radio, cell phone, laptop, and publications simultaneously - a trait his granddaughter, Marion, emulated in her youth. He'd often spend his spare time reading and researching topics of interest. His face lighted up when he had opportunities to share his knowledge -- especially math, science, and the latest technology.
Phil was a problem-solver and never afraid to take on new challenges. With high energy and a zest for life, he encouraged others to do the same and always made time to help others. He did everything with honesty and integrity and had high standards and a solid work ethic.
His legacy will carry on forever reminding us of the difference a “can do” attitude can make.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19th from 4-7 pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Funeral will be Friday, December 20th at 9 am from Wilbraham Funeral Home to a Funeral Mass at 10AM at St. Cecilia Church, Wilbraham.
