Patricia A. (Manning) Speight, 90, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at home. Born in Springfield, Pat was the daughter of the late John J. and Anna (Moore) Manning. Raised in Springfield’s Hungry Hill section, she was brought up in a traditional Irish speaking home. Pat was educated at Our Lady of Hope Grammer School (1947), Cathedral High School (1951) and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing (1954). She worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at House of the Good Shephard Convent and served as Director of Nursing at the Margaret Carlson Detoxification Center. Pat was a longtime communicant of St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow, as well as a Eucharistic Minister. She loved to knit Irish sweaters and sew quilts for family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, and she was a member of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Assn. In addition to her parents, Pat was also predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas W. Speight, III, and her six siblings; Anna Hottin, John (Ace) Manning, William Manning, Eileen Santillo, Thomas and Richard Manning, as well as nephews; William P. Connor and Edward J. Hottin. She leaves her seven children; Kathleen Speight, Maureen Van Tassel (Gary), Thomas J. Speight, Eileen Speight, Patricia Bundy (Doug), Sheila Logan (Tim) and Johanna Trainor (Scott) and ten beloved grandchildren; Thomas Speight (Jen), Michael Speight, Brooke Clark (Corey), Emily and Brendan Logan, John and Sheila Bundy, Jack Trainor, Colleen and Anna Cataldo. She was also predeceased by her longtime companion Pete Buckley. Pat's family would like to thank all of her caregivers, especially Jo Arlotta and Terry Kallaugher for their compassionate care. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:30 AM at St. Michael's Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hampden. Wilbraham Funeral Home will be handling the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, PO Box 98018, Washington, DC 20090-8018.
