Norma (Rezendes) Bandarra, 90, died peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Bedford, MA, to the late Mary (Viveiros) Rezendes and was a longtime Wilbraham resident.
Norma lived a life defined by service and commitment to her community. Whether volunteering her time, organizing community initiatives, or simply lending a hand to a neighbor in need, she was a tireless champion for friends, family, and local causes. She was an officer in many clubs and involved in countless efforts, including: St. Cecilia's Catholic Women's Club (past President and Treasurer), Wilbraham Women's Club (past President), Wilbraham Garden Club (Treasurer), St. Cecilia's Eucharistic Minister, Women's Club State Federation, Springfield Museum Board of Directors, Fountain Park Committee, and the initial Wilbraham Senior Center Planning Committee. She also spent time working for the office of Senator Gale Candaras. As a young woman, she worked as a paralegal and also performed administrative work that required top-secret clearance.
In addition to her mother, Norma was predeceased by her stepfather, Joseph Baptiste and her brother Antone Rezendes. She will be dearly missed by her son, Steven Bandarra, and his wife, Meg, of Wilbraham, as well as her sister-in-law, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and close friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, from 4:00–6:00 PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends may gather to celebrate Norma's Funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 2 at 11:00 AM at St. Cecilia Church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Guests are encouraged to wear a mask to Norma’s funeral services due to family health concerns. Masks will be provided at the funeral home and church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Cecilia Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham, MA 01095, or to the Wilbraham Public Library, 25 Crane Park Drive, Wilbraham, MA 01095.
