Neal Gregory Fusco, Jr. passed peacefully with his youngest daughter, Lisa, by his side on August 29, 2023. He was born at home in Wilbraham, MA on December 12, 1928. Soon after, he and his large Italian family moved to Springfield, MA.
He nickname was “Juney”, as he was a junior to his father. He was a motorcycle enthusiast early on. He owned two 1940’s Indian motorcycles, one of which he put together from parts in a basket. Juney was one of the original members of the Fritzy’s Roamers Motorcycle Club. At 94, he still owned his Honda Goldwing with a side car although he had not ridden in a few years.
In his words, he had a “wonderful childhood” and enjoyed sharing his stories of growing up in more innocent times. He loved driving though his old neighborhood and pointing out the places where he had so many memories. He was frugal and would fix nearly everything due to being raised during the Depression. Countless cars, trucks, minibikes, snowmobiles, lawn mowers and motorcycles had extended lives in part because of Juney’s mechanical abilities.
He married his wife Marea in 1954 and they built side by side houses next to his parents, Ma & Pa. They enjoyed many summers vacationing with extended family at Hampton Beach and raising their two daughters. He was known to go for a ride and “pop” in for a visit with his many relatives in the area, often with a daughter on the back of a motorcycle. Later in life, Marea took on the role of travel agent and together they explored the many corners of the world. When asked recently about where he would go if he could take a trip anywhere, he immediately said he’d like to go back to the Grand Canyon.
Juney worked for The Telephone Company for 33 years. He was determined to send his two daughters to college, and he was very proud of their accomplishments as first-generation college graduates. He was able to retire at 55 which afforded him many years to spend time with his grandchildren going to the movies, The Big E, train shows and many family gatherings.
He is survived by his daughters, Gina and her husband Steve, Lisa and her wife, Sue. He also leaves his grandchildren Alex and Emma, her fiancé Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. His wife passed peacefully with him by her side in 2021.
