Nancy Patrica O’Neill, 82, passed from this life peacefully in the presence of family with Irish music playing softly in the background. Born in Springfield, she lived most of her life in West Springfield. Nancy was the first of four daughters born to the late William and Hanora O’Neill, immigrants from County Kerry, Ireland. All close in age, the sisters grew to appreciate their Irish heritage, a particular interest to Nancy. She enjoyed multiple trips to Ireland with family and friends. Nancy was a graduate of Cathedral High School and the Gaugh School of Business in Springfield. She spent her career as an underwriter at Monarch Insurance Company. Nancy enjoyed diverse interests: She was an avid reader and lifelong learner who loved history and current events. Nancy enjoyed family gatherings, travel, as well as trips to Cape Cod and Ogunquit. She had a keen wit. Nancy is pre-deceased by her sister Mary Jane Doyle and brother-in-law Thomas Doyle. She will be deeply missed by her sister Catherine Lamoureux (Edward) of Hampden, and sister Sheila O’Neill of Springfield, niece Cathy St. Laurent (Mark); two nephews: Christopher Doyle (Kathy), and Stephen Lamoureux (Rhea) and their offspring whom she considered her grandchildren. The family extends thanks to the staff at Baystate Medical Center, especially the E.R., Neuro unit, and Baystate Hospice for their care and support; also, to Life Care of Wilbraham staff for their care where Nancy experienced companionship and enjoyment during the last few years of her life. A liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, at 11 AM at St. Cecilia Church, Main St., Wilbraham. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Road, Wilbraham on Monday, February 23 from 4-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy’s name may be sent to Open Pantry Community Services, 287 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01103.
