Malcolm R. George went to his eternal rest on July 13, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Springfield, MA to the late Francis E. and Marion E. (Carey) George. He was a 1954 graduate of Springfield Technical High School and the Massachusetts Military Academy in 1958. In 1953, Malcom enlisted in the MA Army National Guard and rose to the rank of Captain. During his service, he commanded Company B 1st Battalion 104 Infantry in Agawam, MA. His unit was awarded two consecutive Superior Ratings and the 26th Infantry Division Assistant Division Commander�s Award as the most excellent Rifle Company in the Division. Malcolm was employed in the banking industry for over 35 years, rising from a teller to President of Warren Savings Bank and then Ludlow Savings Bank. Active in the industry, Malcolm was a former Chairman of the MA Bankers Assn. during its first year after the merger of the MA Commercial Bankers and Savings Bankers Assn., and Chairman of their Education Committee. He served as President of the Deposit Insurance Fund of MA. He was a Director and Chairman of the Education Committee of the Savings and Community Bankers of America, Washington, DC and also a member of the Executive Committee, Center for Financial Studies at Fairfield University. In 1994 Malcolm was awarded the Thomas A. McGrath, S.J. Distinguished Faculty Award. A 5 year Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Springfield Technical Community College, he was also Chairman of the college�s Foundation and a Board Member of the Assistance Corporation. In addition, Malcolm was a former Vice President and Treasurer of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He was an Overseer of Old Sturbridge Village and a former Corporator of the Ludlow Boys and Girls Club. Malcolm was a member of American Legion Post 420, former member of the Gold Badge of the Western MA Police Chiefs Assn. and Wilbraham Country Club. In his retirement years, Malcolm took a job as a driver for Consumer Auto Parts. He enjoyed being able to be out among people and the camaraderie of the men at work. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Marino-George and leaves two sons, Michael of Southwick and Dane of Wilbraham, three step-children, Richard Lafley of Wilbraham, Lisa Ricco of Enfield, CT and Jennifer Mancini of East Longmeadow, a sister and brother-in-law Judith and Martin Imm of Maine. Malcolm leaves 4 grandchildren, Caitlin, Colin, Kendra and Kyleen and 4 step-grandchildren Enzo and Franco Mancini, Ricky and Matthew Lafley and several nieces and nephews. There will be a Funeral Mass Friday at 10 am at St. Cecilia�s Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Springfield. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. In lieu of flowers donations in Malcolm�s name may be made to the Springfield Technical Community College Foundation, 2 Armory St., Springfield, MA 01105. Malcolm was a true gentlemen, a man of the �old school.� He was humble despite his many accomplishments in life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he was loved and respected by all who really knew him. An avid New York Giants football fan, Malcolm enjoyed watching the games and the good-hearted ribbing he took from his friends when they weren�t doing well. He will be profoundly missed.
