Louis F. Morse

April 21, 1937 — January 9, 2025

Louis “Lou” F. Morse, 87, of Hampden went home to Heaven on Jan. 9, 2025. He was born in Westfield on April 21, 1937 to the late Leslie J. and Mildred L. (Smith) Morse Stockwell. Lou was a proud Army veteran. He became a Captain on the Longmeadow Fire Department, serving in many roles and retiring after 27 dedicated years of service in 1993.
His second act began when he and his wife Gail retired early and relocated to Waxhaw, NC to volunteer full-time at JAARS, associated with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Lou also joined the Waxhaw volunteer fire department as a firefighter and EMT, and he later became chief for about five years. Lou discovered the mission of Group Workcamps and embraced it. For more than a decade, he traveled around the eastern U.S. helping to set up and facilitate several camps each summer, working with other adult volunteers and teens to serve by repairing homes for people in need in a wide variety of communities. Lou continued to volunteer when he and Gail moved to Dowling Park, Florida in 2008, where they also enjoyed cruising in the Caribbean and taking vacations around the eastern U.S.
Lou leaves his beloved wife of 66 years, Gail A. (Sandman) Morse, their daughter Cynthia L. Morse Catuogno, cherished grandchild Michal Catuogno, brother Oren R. (Janice) Morse, stepbrother W. Bruce (Sylvane) Stockwell, sister-in-law Dolly Morse and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Darren M. Morse in 1988, stepfather Charles W. Stockwell, brothers Wayne “Happy” (Lynn) Morse and James H. Morse, and stepsister Barbara (Gary) (Stockwell) Rooke.
Lessons from Lou’s life... Smile at the babies, keep on learning, love God, give from the heart...
