Lorene (Judkins) Perkins

Obituary
Lorene Judkins Perkins passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 10, 2020 at the home she shared with her daughter and son-in-law for the past 9 years. She was born in Corinna, ME on December 27, 1921 to the late Wilbur and Leona (Smith) Judkins. She graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1940 and Farmington Normal School in 1943, majoring in Elementary Education. Lorene taught at schools in Southwest Harbor, ME and Baltimore, MD. In 1944 she married her childhood sweetheart George P. Perkins. They were happily married for 55 years and lived in Baltimore MD, Bangor, Dexter and Belfast, ME. Their last residence for over 50 years was in Newport, ME. She is survived by one daughter, Loralee (Poppy) Nelson and son-in-law Terry (Brick) Nelson of Wilbraham, MA. Lorene was blessed with 2 grandsons: John D. Nelson (Denise) of Marlboro, MA and Matthew Y. Nelson (Melissa) of Scituate, MA. She also has four wonderful great grandchildren: Jack and Evan of Scituate and Laura and Mark of Marlboro. Lorene was Past President of the Newport Women’s Club and Newport Junior Extension as well as a member of the Newport Garden Club. She attended People’s Methodist Church in Newport for over 50 years serving on its Missions Commission. She also attended Wilbraham United Church until poor health forced her to watch services from home. She loved time with family, cooking, summers on the porch, playing the organ and telling “Bobby the Boy” stories.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Corinna Cemetery in Corinna, Maine as soon as the current conditions allow. Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to People’s Methodist Church, 131 Main St., Newport, ME 04953. Lorene’s family wishes to thank Trish Campbell for her loving care and Baystate Hospice for their care and support during her last days.
