Leverett Clive “Lev” Barr passed away at home on August 14, 2019 of a heart attack. “Lev” was so full of enthusiasm, charisma, music, and charity. When asked how he was, he always replied with a smile: “not bad for a young fellow.” Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, he served in the Navy as a guided missile technician, and later found his passion as a salesperson and settled in Monson, Massachusetts. When not working, he was singing with his wife, playing musical instruments, helping those in need, or “putzing” around the house, as he would call it — there was nothing he could not fix. A talented musician, he sang for the Springfield Symphony, at weddings, at churches, being a longtime member of at least three church choirs, and on occasion at restaurants to wish his friends happy birthday, to the embarrassment of his children. His rendition of Our Father brought peace and comfort to so many. He gave to others more than he asked of them. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Joan Carol, his three sons, Brian, Jamison, and Jeffrey, his daughter, Heather, and his two grandchildren. He is truly missed. Donations in his memory may be made to the Springfield Rescue Mission, 10 Mill St., Springfield, MA01108 or Homes for Our Troops, 6 Main St., Taunton, MA 02780.
