Judith H. Jones

December 10, 1935 — August 10, 2024

Hello friends,
Judy passed away August 10th from a long period of Alzheimer’s. We thought it nice to share this note about Judy’s life and family.
Born in Quincy in 1935, her folks, Sal and Bob Porter moved several times while she was growing up, finally settling in the wonderful small town of Hanover, Ma., where she spent her high school years. Very active in school activities from cheer leader to class officer. It was while in Hanover High School that Judy met George. their first date was when George took her to her Freshman Dance. She was fourteen, he was sixteen and the rest is history.
Judy excelled during nurses training. She was at Boston City Hospital in 1953-54 during the last polio outbreak. She and others worked until exhaustion took over, rested, then back to caring for multiple polio patients mostly children.
For many years Judy’s grandmother lived with the family, Judy was her primary care giver until Gram had to be hospitalized. When Judy was sixteen, she welcomed a surprise baby brother. She cared for him until she left for Nurses Training at Somerville Hospital, near Boston.
Judy is survived by her loving husband George. They were married for 66 years. During their happy lives together they lived in Plympton, MA, Hanover, MA, Wilbraham, MA and at Reed’s Landing in Springfield.

Her brother Jay lives in Oregon. Son Eric, retired Army captain, received a medical discharge after being injured in Afghanistan. He lives in Ontario, Canada with his wonderful partner Kathy, a retired Sgt Ontario Provincial Police Officer. Son Kurt lives in Acton, a small community west of Boston.
She will also be missed by four wonderful, loving grandchildren. Kam, graduated Johnson & Wales University, works for Mickey Mouse at Disney World. Alexis graduated from Quinnipiac University and is now an RN at a hospital in Boca Raton, Fl. Kelsey, graduated from LaSalle Univ. and works in South Carolina. Christopher, graduated UMass and works in the financial business for a company on the north shore of Boston. Kim, an RN, is our daughter in law, often referred to as our daughter. Always ready to help.
Over her nursing career as an RN, Judy worked at various medical facilities, from maternity to elder care. She was recognized as a caring, professional and a hands on nurse. She always preferred to be with patients.
She really enjoyed working in her flower garden. The beauty of the flowers provided her great happiness and also to her neighbors who would enjoy as they walked by.
She will be missed by so many family, friends and former patients, also her wonderful staff at Reeds Landing, the staff from Hospice, and also by friends at the Ambassador Condo in Bonita Beach, Fl. where they enjoyed warmer weather for over 30+years.
At Judy’s request, all services will be private. In lieu of donations, and in her caring spirit, Judy asks that you take a moment and contact someone who may be ill, lonely, or needs to hear a cheery voice
A life well lived and loved. May Judy rest in peace and May peace also be with you.
