Obituary
Judith K. (Altree) Moriarty, former longtime Hampden resident, died peacefully on Thursday, August 18, 2022. She was born in Brockton, MA to the late Ernest A. Altree of Bristol, England and Beulah (Best) Altree of North Hero, VT. Raised in North Hero, VT and Springfield, MA, she graduated from Classical High School in 1949 and Westfield State University in 1953. She taught in Springfield, Amherst and Hampden. She was a positive influence in the lives of over 1000 kindergarten students over 25 years. Judy enjoyed many activities; she was an avid reader, baking for all was her passion and she enjoyed bird watching. She loved animals, especially horses, cats & dogs. She had many friends with whom she would enjoy luncheons and game nights. She was a member of the Agawam Junior Woman’s Club, the Yola Guild and Hampden Garden Club. Judy enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Hampden women’s bowling league and continued with that passion well into her senior years. She enjoyed playing pool at the Hampden Senior Center and socializing with close friends. Judy was predeceased by her beloved husband William J. Moriarty in 1996 after 41 years of marriage. She leaves daughters Cheryl L. Moriarty and her husband Michael Howes of South Hadley, Kim Laires and her husband Jorge Laires of Ludlow, sons Shawn T. Moriarty and his wife Phyllis Marshall-Moriarty of Chicopee and Dr. Kevin P. Moriarty and his wife Elena Moriarty of Hampden, as well as two self proclaimed daughters Cindy Brehaut of Westfield and Debbie Naylor of Palmer. She has twelve grandchildren spread throughout the country; Tyler, Gabrielle, Varvara, Brad, Kyle, Dylan, Kendyl, Tori, Cassidy, Anthony, Lyndzi and Kayla as well as 1 great granddaughter, Dove and many grand doggies. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends may gather on Saturday, August 27th at 10:00 AM at Wilbraham Funeral Home for Judy’s Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Hampden Seniors, Inc., 104 Allen Street, Hampden, MA 01036 or to the Hampden Free Public Library, 625 Main Street, P.O. Box 129, Hampden, MA 01036.
