Joseph Arnold �Red� O�Shaughnessy passed away peacefully on November 12, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Springfield and raised in the Hungry Hill section of the city, he was son of the late Patrick and Catherine (Killilea) O�Shaughnessy. He graduated from Cathedral High School, where he met his wife, the former Joyce Paradis. Joe served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Massachusetts National Guard after his graduation from the Massachusetts Military Academy. He enjoyed a successful forty-one year career with Friendly's Restaurants where he started as a manager trainee in 1957 and retired as Senior Executive Vice President in 1997. He received an undergraduate degree in business from American International College and later attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. After retiring from Friendly's, Joe served as Executive Director of the National Retail Tenants Association. Throughout his career, he served on several Boards of Directors including American International College and the former Baybank of Western Massachusetts. During retirement Joe enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren and golfing at Longmeadow Country Club and Cedar Hammock Golf Club in Naples, Florida. Throughout his life he was an advisor to many, was an articulate public speaker, enjoyed discussing current events of the day and working in his yard. Joe leaves behind his beloved wife Joyce of fifty-seven years, son Jim and wife Tenley of Concord, MA, son John and wife Jen of Corte Madera, CA and son Jeff and wife Dawn of West Hartford, CT, as well as eight adored grandchildren. He also leaves behind two brothers, William and Edward, four sisters, Peggy Amato, Maureen Wdowiak, Cathy Asteriades and Patty Serra and many brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was also predeceased by his brother Gerald O'Shaughnessy. A�wake will be held between 3:00 and 6:00 PM on Friday at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Road, Wilbraham, MA. There will be a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM on Sauturday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham. Burial will follow in Longmeadow Cemetery.
