John Walker Stearns

Obituary

John W. “Jack” Stearns, 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center with his wife and family by his side. Born in Springfield, he lived in Longmeadow for many years prior to moving to Wilbraham. He was the son of the late Leslie and Alma (Walker) Stearns and graduated from Nichols College and attended University of MA at Amherst. He worked at Monarch Life Insurance Co., and served as a Vice President at the former Springfield Institution for Savings and the former Heritage Bank in Hadley for many years. Jack was an accomplished golfer who played in many amateur tournaments in his younger years. He played on many local courses, especially The Country Club of Wilbraham. Jack also enjoyed camping and vacationing with family and friends in Maine, Martha’s Vineyard and Hilton Head Island. Being with people he loved and enjoying good times was his greatest delight. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Lois C. (Call) Stearns, their two children John W. Stearns, Jr. and his wife Mary-Anne of East Longmeadow and Judith Anne Stearns of Agawam, five grandchildren; Daniel and Carolyn Stearns, Kristine DeRaleau and Collin and Emily Langlois and four great grandchildren; Lea and Noah Stearns and Kaelyn and Logan DeRaleau. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 24th from 10:00 am to 12 Noon at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham, concluding with a Memorial Service at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
