Former longtime Wilbraham resident, John W. “Jack” Schnepp, Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late John W. and Catherine (Singleton) Schnepp, he and his parents moved to the Springfield area in 1934. A 1948 graduate of Cathedral High School, he attended Suffield Academy before entering the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. During a 2 year enlistment in the US Air Force during the Korean War, he married the love of his life; the former Joan Foley in 1954.
Graduating from the Wharton School of Business and Finance at the University of Pennsylvania in 1957, Jack began working for the Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, MI in the Purchasing Dept. From there he worked for many large companies across the Northeast, eventually landing in Springfield as a Regional Administrator of the Western Regional Office of the MA Department of Environmental Protection, for over 10 years until his retirement in 1997. Active in the Wilbraham Recreational programs, Jack coached many baseball and football teams over the years. He even received his SCUBA certification in 1984. Jack had a beautiful voice and was active with the Springfield Chordsmen Barbershop Chorus and the Young at Heart Chorus of Northampton, with whom he traveled and performed all over the world, and appeared in the movie “Young at Heart,” released in 2008. Jack and Joan enjoyed traveling together, visiting Bermuda, Alaska, the Caribbean and the Hawaiian Islands, and after retirement enjoyed spending the month of February together in Englewood, FL. In addition to his parents, Jack was also predeceased by his two sisters; Dorothy O’Connor and Marge Angelucci, and his beloved wife of 46 years, Joan (Foley) Schnepp, in 2000. He will be sadly missed by their six devoted children; Mary Maziarz and her husband Michael of Wilbraham, John W. Schnepp, III and his wife Anna of Mooreville, NC, Thomas E. Schnepp and his wife Cheryl of Orange, CT, Robert F. Schnepp and his wife Myra of East Falmouth, MA, William J. Schnepp and his wife Kathy of Suffield, CT and James M. Schnepp and his wife Kathia of San Marcos, CA, 17 adored grandchildren and 26 cherished great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his devoted companion Joyce Dearman.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3rd from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends are invited to attend Jack’s Funeral Service on Monday at 11:30 AM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery.
