John F. Curtiss

John Francis Curtiss, 60, passed away peacefully, at home, on Saturday, December 24, 2022. Born in Winsted, CT to the late Francis and Gertrude (Augustyn) Curtiss, he worked as an electrician. John was a volunteer fire fighter in Norfolk, CT for many years and belonged to the Norfolk Curling Club. He served as a Eucharistic Minister at Immaculate Conception Church of Norfolk, CT, where he was a faithful parishioner.

When John was growing up he spent many summers with Auntie Ann and Uncle Ted working the farm. He attended Oliver Wolcott Tech in Torrington and he learned his trade. He started work with Turri Electric in Torrington and has recently been part of the team at Griffin Electrical in Southington, CT. In his younger years he enjoyed curling and traveling to bonspiels, where he was nicknamed “Boomer”. Until 2021 John lived at the family home on Sunset Ridge in Norfolk, the town he loved. John was a true friend to many there. He spent the last year and a half living with Mary and Stephen McGovern in Wilbraham.

John will be sadly missed by his eight siblings; Susan C. Anderson (James) of Kittery Point, ME, Alice A. Curtiss (Richard Galbo) of Buffalo, NY, Mary C. McGovern (Stephen) of Wilbraham, Nora R. Sethi (Harwant) of Greenland, NH, Margaret E. Curtiss of Winchester, NH, Maureen F. Curtiss (Dean E. Beaman) of Winchester, NH, Francis R. Curtiss (Bonnie) of Dalton, MA and Christine M. Wolfanger (Jody) of Avon, NY. John was a devoted uncle to his 14 nieces and nephews: Gretchen, Nicole, Brenna, Rick, Clare, Liz, Abigail, Aidan, Harwant, Jr., Tara, Lindsey, Will, Jack and Indy. John’s Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 10:30 at Immaculate Conception Church, 4 North St., Norfolk, CT. There will be a reception to follow at the Parish Hall. The burial will be held privately for the family. Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
