With deep sadness we announce the passing of John “Jack” Carney of Wilbraham. He died peacefully at Life Care Center of Wilbraham on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, with his family by his side. Born in Springfield on October 9, 1936, Jack was the son of the late William and Cecilia (Broeren) Carney. He graduated from Technical High School and attended American International College. Jack served proudly as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps. from 1954-1957. He spent his entire career working at Waldbaum’s A&P Food Mart as Vice President of their produce division. An avid golfer, Jack and his close friend Sy Posnick co-founded the Jack Carney Avocado Open Golf Tournament which raised millions of dollars for charity including; Cerebral Palsy, Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Visiting Nurses and the Genesis Fund. Jack’s greatest joy was spending summers in Kennebunk, ME with his family and many friends and spending winters in Englewood, FL. Jack will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 66 years Mary Ann (Fogerty) Carney, daughter Karen Gralia (John), Debra Gralia and Linda Bond and her husband Bill, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Kristen Gralia, son in law Edmond Gralia, Jr., three brothers; Bill, Bob and Donnie and two sisters; Maureen Redfern and Dottie Walczak. Visitation will be held on Wednesday Nov. 6 from 4-6PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Jack’s Committal Service with Military Honors will take place on Thursday Nov. 7 at 10AM at MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Jack’s family would like to sincerely thank Dennis Lopata and the staff at Life Care Center of Wilbraham for their compassionate care, especially Andrea, Shamica, Luz, Janet and Deb Rivera.
