Obituary
Joel A. Gonyea, 67, died peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield to the late Norbert and Margaret Gonyea, he was a longtime Wilbraham resident. Joel owned and operated J.A.G. Plumbing and Heating in Wilbraham, then worked as a plumber for the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department for 12 years until his retirement. Joel is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Brenda Gonyea, as well as their two daughters, Meghan Gonyea and Melinda VanDeKoppel, her husband Aaron and cherished grandson Wesley, and his brothers Peter, his wife Kathy, David, his wife Susan, and Paul Gonyea. Family and friends are invited to visitation hours on Saturday, November 20 from 9:30am-11:30 am, followed by Joel’s Celebration of Life Service at 11:30am at Wilbraham Funeral Home (2551 Boston Rd, Wilbraham). The family requests that all visitors please wear masks. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Stroke Foundation online at https://americanstroke.org/ .
