James V. Dowd, age 87, passed away on February 8, 2025, in Palmer, MA. Born on January 26, 1938, James grew up in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, MA, before settling in Wilbraham, MA for the last 52 years. James dedicated five years of his life serving his country in the Air Force from 1961-1966, serving with distinction and honor. After his military service, James carved out a successful career as a Civil Engineer, a field where he applied his sharp mind and attention to detail. Beyond his professional life, he was passionate about antique cars and trucks, a hobby that allowed him to connect with like-minded enthusiasts from around the country. He was a long-time member of the Antique Truck Historical Society.
James is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Susan, and their children; Jennifer Bartolucci and her husband Chip Bullock; Bonny Skiver and her husband David; Susan Krawczyk and her husband Karl; and Peter Dowd and his wife Jamie. He was a proud grandfather to Tyler, Benjamin, Erik, Griffin, Mia, Madelyn, Natalie, Nathan, Jason and Khloe, and a great-grandfather to Ava and Margaret. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished time spent with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Hannah Dowd; brothers Tom, Larry, Jack and Timmy: and his son Matthew Dowd.
James will be remembered for his dedication, both in his service to his country and his community, and for the love and joy he brought to his family and friends. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A private ceremony will be held for immediate family. Arrangements were entrusted to Wilbraham Funeral Home.
