Irma Marion Halls of Springfield passed peacefully on September 28, 2024. Born in 1930, a life
long resident of Springfield, Irma was the daughter of Gunar and Ingeborg (Froiland) Halls.
Irma traveled the world with friends. She enjoyed many trips sponsored by the Springfield
Museums. Irma enjoyed visiting gardens with the Springfield Garden Club. She spent
countless hours in her own garden and loved to share flowers and vegetables with anyone who
came to visit.
Taking daily walks around East Forest Park, insisting on golfing without a cart, and walking to
Dryden Memorial School to read to classes kept her active. Irma loved children and would
choose to spend time with them whenever possible. She always enjoyed good natured
competition and had a great sense of humor. Her laugh was infectious.
Irma enjoyed learning. In addition to traveling she enrolled in courses offered by Springfield
College’s Life Long Learning program. She read daily and participated in a book club. Irma
was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Springfield Symphony, Springfield Museums and the
Majestic Theater. Most of all, Irma was always proud of her Norwegian heritage.
Irma was predeceased by her parents and her brother Gordon. She leaves her brother
Norman. Irma will be deeply missed by her extended family of nieces and nephews in the
Galaska and Halls families: Lisa (Chet), Jon (Val), Drew (Anna), Jeff (Julie), Kristin, Justin and
Christian, and her great nephew and great nieces Sam, Evie, and Abby. She leaves her dearest
friend of 80 years, Jackie Weaver.
A graveside service was held at Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield. Memorial contributions
may be made in her memory to the Springfield Garden Club c/o 27 Cottage Avenue,
Wilbraham MA 01095. Please include Scholarship/Halls in the memo.
