Obituary
Hildegarde Marie (Ersing) Lyon, 90, a lifelong resident of Springfield, Massachusetts, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday. She was the daughter of the late Erhard and Luise (Waller) Ersing, born July 17, 1930. Hilda attended the High School of Commerce and upon graduation was employed by Eastern States Farmer’s Exchange in West Springfield and Toros Omartian Oriental Rugs in Springfield. Hilda married her junior high school sweetheart, the late Leroy Lyon, Jr., on October 20, 1956. Hilda was a loving wife, extraordinary mother and consummate homemaker. She thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of making a home for her “Three Boys.” Hilda spent many hours volunteering her time to various causes, organizations and Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was a member for most of her life. Several organizations and numerous individuals benefitted from Hilda’s ministry of crocheting prayer shawls over the last thirteen years. She devoted many hours of prayer to this ministry as she crocheted each stitch. Hildegarde was predeceased by her beloved husband Leroy Lyon, Jr.; parents-in-law Leroy and Blanche Lyon; her brothers Hans, Walter (wife Maryalyce), and Paul Ersing, as well as her brother and sister-in-law Christy and Beth Zguro. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Lee Paul Lyon, wife Barbara of Wilbraham and Mark Lyon, wife Denice Lyon of Denver, NC, brother Carl and wife Irene Ersing, special cousin Marianne (Waller) Barth, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Maureen Lyon, sisters-in-law Eva and Carol Ersing, along with several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 400 Wilbraham Road, Springfield, Massachusetts, 01109 or Cancer House of Hope (RE: Yoga program), 1999 Westfield Street, West Springfield, 01089.
