Obituary

Helen Liaskos, a beloved mother, grandmother, thea, nouna, and dear friend of many, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the age of 98.

Helen was raised in Rockaway Beach, New York, along with her beloved older sisters, Georgette and Irene. She was fortunate enough to grow up one block from the ocean, inspiring a lifelong love of the beach – which she passed on to all of her family.

At the age of 24, she married her cherished husband, Stephen, to whom she remained married to for over 45 years. Together, they raised their two children, Maria and Peter, in Riverdale, New York.

Helen was a devoted parent who always emphasized the importance of family. With characteristic warmth, she welcomed Maria's marriage to Tom and Peter's marriage to Carrie. In later years, Helen's greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, and Luke - delighting in their accomplishments and activities.

Throughout her life, Helen was known for her kindness and empathy, as well as her strong convictions and gracious demeanor. She is fondly remembered by many for the gentle guidance and heartfelt encouragement she offered to family, friends, and neighbors alike. Her interactions were infused with thoughtful regard, making even brief encounters feel meaningful.

Helen's Christian beliefs were a core part of her daily life. She drew strength from her Greek Orthodox Christian faith, and steadfastly attended religious services at several parishes in the greater New York City area.

Prior to her retirement, Helen enjoyed close to 25 years of employment with Paine Webber (which subsequently became UBS) in Manhattan. There, like everywhere else, she was well regarded, and greatly missed upon her departure.

During the early years of her retirement, she remained in NY and enjoyed many celebrations and gatherings with her son Peter and family. The last 10 years of her retirement Helen resided in Massachusetts to be close to her daughter Maria and son-in-law Fr. Tom.

Funeral services and burial will be attended by family and close friends in NY.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston Camp (MBC) in Contoocook, NH (www.metropolisofbostoncamp.org) or to the Smile Train charitable organization at www.smiletrain.org

May Helen’s memory be eternal.
