It is with joy and sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Katsanos from this earth to her rightful place in Heaven. She has peacefully joined her beloved husband, Edward F. Katsanos, her parents Walter and Mary Niecewice Siok, and her siblings, Bertha Costa, Dorothy Smigiel, Viola Kozaczka, Stella Carignan, Nellie Wawrzonek, Julian Siok, and Theodore Siok.
Helen was born in Ludlow, Massachusetts, graduated from Ludlow High School, and worked at the Springfield Public Library. She lived in Springfield for a time before moving to Wilbraham where she and Edward raised their family. In later years, Helen worked as a cook and housekeeper for St. Cecilia’s rectory, and then for Father Sears, whom she adored, in his retirement.
Helen is survived by her two children, Barbara Porter and her husband Kenyon Porter, and Richard E. Katsanos and his wife Karen Chauvin Katsanos, as well as her granddaughter, Amanda Porter and her husband Don Boutin. She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25th from 4-7PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends may gather for Helen’s Funeral Service on Monday August 26 at 10AM at Wilbraham Funeral Home followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 34 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
