Helen Rose Carlson

Helen R. Carlson, 78, died at home on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Born in Westfield, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Stella (Garlo) Carlson. A lifelong resident of East Longmeadow, Helen also enjoyed her summer home in Eastham, Massachusetts. She graduated from Classical High School in 1954. Helen went on to graduate from Framingham State Teachers College and later received a Masters of Art in Education from American International College. She worked faithfully for 42 years in the Springfield Public School System and spoke lovingly about her years as a school teacher. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Michael�s Church. Helen will be remembered for selling rhubarb and flowers from her garden, delivering groceries to loved ones, and always being dependable in times of need. Sadly she was predeceased by her youngest brother, Robert L. Carlson, and leaves behind his wife, Sally J. Carlson. Helen also leaves behind a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Victoria Carlson, nine nieces, and 2 nephews. In accordance with Helen�s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Family and friends may meet for Helen�s Funeral Mass on Tuesday, May 26 at 10:00am at St. Michael�s Church, 128 Maple Street, East Longmeadow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
